Football 2008
OK.....I'm a bad Mom! Football is already over and I'm just now writing about it! Hurricane IKE disrupted the season, coming right in the middle. Both boys had a great season, full of huge plays and great teammates. I was actually able to be involved this year as one of the 7th grade reps for the High School Quarterback Club. The other ladies that I was able to work with were unbelievable and I ended the season with four great friends myself.
Clayton injured his elbow the next to the last game and wasn't able to play the last game of the season. After he hurt it he continued to play and only came out of the game when the coach was afraid he would injure it further. He was disappointed because the game he had to miss was played in Woodforest Stadium. I was extra proud of him for how he encouraged his team from the sideline that game. EVERY time a player came off the field, he was there to pat them on the helmet and cheer them on. .
Adam had a great first year of junior high football, scoring several times and making amazing plays. Each time he scored he looked like he was a little boy...pure excitement! He was able to play with some great friends and was a leader on the team.
Thanks to the team of coaches at McCullough who gave countless hours to the players this season.

Veteran's Day 2008
For Veteran's Day each year, the 8th graders at our Junior High are assigned an amazing project. They are supposed to interview a veteran or a family member of a veteran about their service. They write a report and make a poster that is then laminated and hung in front of the school the weekend before Veteran's Day. There are almost 1,000 Veterans being honored there now.
Clayton chose to interview his Great-Grandmother, my Dad's Mom. My Grandfather, Ted Lehman, was in the Air Force during WWII. He was shot down over The Netherlands on February 22, 1945 (exactly 51 years before Adam was born). He had to bury his parachute in the snow immediately to avoid being captured and then buried himself in a ditch until nightfall. He found a farmer, who allowed him to hide in his barn until he could make it safely across the border to Switzerland, all in the complete cover of darkness.
It's an amazing story but not unlike thousands of stories just like it. Men and women volunteer every day to put their lives in danger for the the good of their country. It's been happening for years here in the US. Right now there's a father of three, Bobby, from our church who is heading to Iraq. He's having to leave his sweet wife and three children (6 years old and younger) at home. He's leaving an infant son, who will be a completely different when he returns home. Bruce, the husband of the maid-of-honor from our wedding, has been overseas more times than I know. He flies helicopters and when I know he's there my stomach drops every time I hear about an accident. How does his wife, my friend, feel when those are reported? And when she receives word that it isn't Bruce, it's almost always someone who she knows...who's wife has been left behind.
I am just so thankful for those in this country who choose to serve and protect me and my family. And I'm also thankful for a school that chooses to honor the service of our Veterans. If you know a Veteran, thank them today. If you don't, thank God that people who don't even know you are in harm's way for you!

A couple of weeks ago, we did a major cleaning in the garage. There were SO MANY boxes of stuff out there that we desperately needed to go through. When we moved here I was 6 months pregnant with Audrey and a lot of stuff just didn't happen. Now 3 1/2 years later we finally got to the garage!!!!
And guess what we found? My Apple computer from 1989! I was taking some advertising classes at SMU and needed to have a computer that had design capabilities. (That sentence totally makes me laugh now because it did NOTHING compared to the cheapest computer you could buy now!) I think we paid $1000 for it used at that time.
We plugged it in and it still works! Enjoy the pics!

Halloween 2008
We had a great time this year for Halloween and all six of us dressed up. Steve and I were Spartan Cheerleaders (think: "who's that hiding in my teepee?" It's me! It's me!"). Clayton and Adam were Hans and Franz and almost didn't need the muscle shirts they wore under their sweatsuits. Emma was a little Belle from Beauty and the Beast and looked so beautiful in her yellow ballgown. Audrey was the perfect Alice In Wonderland! She looked EXACTLY like her, big eyes and all!
Our neighbors and great friends held their 2nd annual Halloween Potluck for the neighborhood. I don't know how many kids there were....but when you see the picture of them all add about 10 more who were too busy to stop for the photo op!
